Portland, Oregon is Vegan Heaven. Vegan restaurants, Vegan bakeries, Vegan Bars, Vegan grocery stores, Vegan clothing stores, Vegan Tattoo Parlors… it goes on and on. Heaven, we are telling you, Heaven. Not to mention how beautiful it is here, so green and lush with lots of adorable victorians and neighborhoods, and plenty to do in its many adorable districts.
We were overwhelmed with things to do, and we ended up consuming A LOT of vegan food, treats, beer, and even some liquor on our trip. Hey, we had to live it up for my 25TH BIRTHDAY PORTLAND EXTRAVAGANZA! Unfortunately we forgot that the camera existed most of the time, but we managed to snap a few pictures while exploring.
Laughing Planet was a short stroll away from our Northwest Portland Hostel, and it had lots of vegan options (we shared vegan nachos and a delicious vegan burrito complete with sweet potatoes and tasty barbeque sauce) and lots of DINOSAURS! Oh, how I love dinosaurs!
We stumbled upon The Church of Elvis, a twenty four hour amusing art vending machine. We almost got married, but it would have cost seventy five cents more, so we decided our love would have to wait.
For my Birthday dinner we went out to Portobello Vegan Trattoria. We got the best seat in the house, nestled in a sweet little spot made for two, illustrated with local flora and fauna.
The Lil’ Sweety Peppers stuffed with cashew cream were AMAZING!
As was our vegan pizza (with the perfect thin, light and airy crust!) topped with sun dried tomatoes, basil, spicy beetballs, and cashew cream.
This lovely creature is a delicious stack of garlic mashed potatoes, portobello flanks, asparagus spears, and little crispy delicious things… YUM!
We had some fancy tea time at the Tao of Tea. I had a darjeeling tea with rose buds and Jef had a mandarin orange scented green tea. We were surrounded by the aroma of asian and indian vegan food… I really wished we hadn’t already ate!
Portland = BEST!!!
Other honorable mentions that did not get to have their pictures taken: Townshend Tea (we actually caught a basement band show here along with some very tasty tea), The Bye and Bye (a vegan bar), A.N.D. Cafe (a vegetarian/vegan brunch spot), Dovetail Bakery, Sweetpea Baking Company, Back to Eden Bakery, Food Fight Vegan Grocery (they had organic seasonal produce and lots of vegan treats, as well as a t-shirt hanging up on a wall that said “Never Trust An Ex-Vegan”), Herbivore Clothing (lots of vegan themed tees and tons of vegan cookbooks!) The People’s Food Co-op (vegetarian co-op grocery store), Rogue Ales Public House (beer! Tasty beer!), Ether Shoes (cute vegan shoes and clothes!) and Blossoming Lotus (a fancy and delicious organic vegan restaurant).
So I’m pretty sure it’s our plan of action to move here. Eventually. But for now, we shall relish in the amazingness of Midtown Sacramento, with our lovely friends and vegan friendly businesses!
