cashew milk (raw food basics)

I really need to give my blender a hand. Bravo, blender, bravo! You did it! You have made a lot of nut cheeses and nut milks in the past couple of weeks, without even complaining. And I thought I would most definitely need to fork out the cash for a new fancy hardcore blender to meet my raw food needs, but you work just fine! Hooray!

Anyways, here is something tasty that my blender whipped up… cashew milk! I know that I did a lightening fast almond milk recipe when I first went raw a couple of week ago, but this recipe is pretty freaking fast. I mean, after you have soaked the nuts for a couple of hours, it is really freaking fast!

The recipe for this basic cashew milk is as follows:

  • 1 cup raw cashews, soaked
  • 3 cups filtered water
  • A wee bit o’ sea salt

Add these ingredients to your favorite blender and blend them together to create perfect nut milk matrimony. Transfer to a bowl that is lined with a nut milk bag and use it to squeeze the delicious milk into the bowl, free from the cashew pulp. Save that cashew pulp for use in another recipe.. perhaps for raw cookies or bread!

This basic recipe can be altered in any way you please. Add more water to make it more watery, less to make it thicker, add cinnamon or raw cacao for fun, or perhaps even raw coconut butter or raw honey/agave. Switch out the cashews for some hemp seeds or almonds. Have fun and get creative with your nut milks! Go bat-wild!

I am lucky and was able to buy my Rawsome Creations nut milk bag at our local coop, but you can get a good nut milk bag online for a decent price, it’s a handy gadget to have.

What is your favorite nut/seed milk to make? What sorts of creative things do you like to add to it for flavor or nutrition?
